Cleo Vance

I spend a lot of time helping people figure out how to navigate complicated family dynamics during large events. Most of the time I am just untangling string lights and trying not to cry during the speeches.

There are three slightly different spools of ivory ribbon sitting on my kitchen counter right now. I have been staring at them for twenty minutes trying to decide which one looks less yellow in the afternoon light. It is completely ridiculous. I know nobody is going to notice the ribbon. But I just cannot stop myself from obsessing over the tiny details.

The emotional weight I got into this entirely by accident when I offered to help my cousin with her backyard ceremony. I thought we were just going to be picking out flowers. We actually spent most of the time trying to figure out how to seat her divorced parents without causing a massive argument. That was when I realized that a wedding is not really about the decorations. It is a giant magnifying glass on your entire family. I started taking notes on how to defuse tension and make the day feel intimate, even when there are a hundred people watching you.

What we talk about I focus a lot on the quiet moments that usually get forgotten in the rush. You will see my notes on setting boundaries with overbearing relatives, choosing music that actually means something to you, and why I always recommend doing a private vow reading. I skip all the intense logistical spreadsheets here. I am terrible at math.

Still learning I do not have everything figured out. I am still trying to learn how to step back and let things just be slightly imperfect. I usually end up fixing a floral arrangement at the very last second anyway.
